Inner Brisbane Carer Support Group

10am last Saturday of each month. Our Inner Brisbane Carer Support Group offers a supportive environment where people have the opportunity to talk about their feelings, help explore alternative ways of coping, offer support to other group members, or to simply listen and observe. Support groups are also a valuable means of informing carers of Arafmi services and resources that are available to assist their caring role.

Practical Tools for Carers (Online)

This workshop provides carers with practical resources and information to assist people at different points in their caring journey.This includes understanding mental health supports, terminology, tips for communicating with clinicians, developing a stay well committee and knowing where to go for information and supports.This information session is designed specifically for people who care for a friend or family member with mental health needs.

The online regional carer support group is a place to meet and catch up with other carers in regional Queensland.The online regional carer support group is a place to meet and catch up with other carers in regional Queensland. Thanks to technology, Arafmi can bring our free supports and services to carers throughout the state.The support group will take place on the first Wednesday of each month online from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Developing a Portable Summary (Online)

This information session is designed specifically for people who care for a friend or family member with mental health needs.Developing a Portable Summary session you will be provided with a template to use to collate relevant details that can be needed by clinicians, service providers and yourself. Recording information centrally can save retelling information over and over and ensure accurate details about a person’s history, needs and supports are maintained.

We need boundaries to protect us, put us in charge of our own lives, promote health relationships, independence and reduce stress.In this workshop we will look at what boundaries are and how and when to practice steps to set personal boundaries.This information session is designed specifically for people who care for a friend or family member with mental health needs.

Communicating with the Person you Support (Online)

The workshop provides carers with communication skills to build a strong and respectful relationship with the person they support.The workshop provides carers with an opportunity to increase their awareness of how people communicate and what skills are needed at different times to build a strong and respectful relationship with the person they support. A range of communication strategies will be explored to build carers confidence and skills and assist them to improve relationships now and in the future. This workshop is based on the L.E.A.P. communication strategy.
