Mental Health First Aid (2 days)

The workshop provides you with the skills to support a friend, family member or co-worker experiencing mental distress or ill-health.This event runs over two days on the 25 & 26 June from 9am - 4:30pm each day at Chermside Bowls Club. Attendees must attend both days. Arrival between 8.30am and 9 am for 9 am start.Around 1 in 5 Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Completing an MHFA course gives you the skills and confidence to support a friend, family member or co-worker. Mental Health First Aid courses are run in over 25 countries and over 3 million people have been trained worldwide. Be part of our growing community of mental health first aidersThis workshop is free for people who care for a friend or family member with mental health needs. Numbers are limited, preference is given to Mental Health Carers and Arafmi Volunteers.

Understanding the NDIS – Carer Coach Module 1 & 2 (Online)

This session is designed to assist carers to understand what the NDIS is, who is eligible to apply and how to apply for an NDIS package.What is Carer Coach?Carer Coach is a five module training series that Arafmi has developed to help mental health carers and the people they care for navigate the NDIS. It brings together information from a range of quality NDIS resources relevant to mental health carers. This information has been combined with the invaluable knowledge Arafmi’s frontline workers have developed through supporting people through the NDIS process, to provide carers with accurate and easily accessible information.Who is it for?Carer Coach is free for anyone who cares for or about a friend or family member with a psychosocial disability who wants to learn more about the NDIS. We need boundaries to protect us, put us in charge of our own lives, promote health relationships, independence and reduce stress.In this workshop we will look at what boundaries are and how and when to practice steps to set personal boundaries.This information session is designed specifically for people who care for a friend or family member with mental health needs.

The workshop provides carers with communication skills to build a strong and respectful relationship with the person they support.The workshop provides carers with an opportunity to increase their awareness of how people communicate and what skills are needed at different times to build a strong and respectful relationship with the person they support. A range of communication strategies will be explored to build carers confidence and skills and assist them to improve relationships now and in the future. This workshop is based on the L.E.A.P. communication strategy.
