
Workshop: Substance Use
Sue O’Brien will be presenting this session. She works as a Family Counsellor for Breakthrough For Families program. This program provides support to family members and significant others who have a loved one with problematic substance use. She has a Masters in Social work and also ‘lived in’ experience of a loved one’s problematic substance use.
Topics covered in the session include:
- Physical and mental effects of substance use
- Brief history of substance use in society
- Why people use substances
- Overview of methamphetamines (ice)
- Effective Communication
- How to set workable boundaries
- Stages of Change for Families (loss and grief)
- Where to go for more help
- What are treatment options
This session is held both online and face-to-face at the same time and we have two ways to RSVP depending on how you would like to attend.
